Franko's Map of Truk (Chuuk) Lagoon, February 17-18, 1944. Francko's Map. Side One, Franko's Map of Truk Lagoon, depicts Truk Lagoon on February 17th to 18th, 1944, when US forces bombed one of Japan's most important bases during World War II. This side of the map features descriptions of the tremendously successful attack, called Operation Hailstone, as well as descriptions of each and every Japanese ship that was sunk and how it was sunk. Also featured are many photographs of Operation Hailstone.
Side Two, Franko's Chuuk Lagoon Dive Map, depicts present day Chuuk (Truk) Lagoon, with information on the many wrecks. The ships (and planes) that were sunk during Operation Hailstone over 60 years ago now comprise the world's greatest wreck diving, making Chuuk Lagoon a must-visit for the world's scuba divers.
